CatStyle is now available on Etsy!! // Some discussion about Beaded Hair sticks!!
CatStyle is now available on Etsy!!
We're pleased to announce that we have listed our first few items in our new Etsy shop! Click the "etsy" logo above or on the right to visit our store!
For those who've followed our work on eBay for a while, the price range of our Etsy stock will be similar to our "Buy It Now" prices on eBay. The good news is, since the prices on Etsy are set, we'll be able to offer a wider variety of pieces! Right now, we have a gorgeous curved dymondwood hair fork and a really unique pair of beaded hair sticks - just to name a couple!
Some discussion about our new BEADED hair sticks!!
Recently, we received a question from a potential customer about our new beaded hair sticks, and I decided to share that answer here as well. She asked something that often weighed on me when looking at beaded sticks:
"Won't those bend?"
Of course, the obvious answer is, yes, all beaded hair sticks will bend and break if you treat them like regular, solid-wood hair sticks. They're just a different type of accessory. Common sense dictates that you treat them like any item of jewelry you own: with care! Hold them always by the wood, especially when positioning them in your hair, and store them safely (like in a vase or a jewelry box).
That being said, I have been wearing my "test" stick (one of the beaded sticks I made long before I ever offered them for sale) 3 or more days a week for about a month and have not damaged or bent it. I've even dropped it on the carpet a couple of times!
The secret is that we don't use regular beading head-pins. Those are made to bend, and they are not suitable for hair sticks - period. To demonstrate how a CatStyle beaded hair stick differs, try this: If you have one handy, find a safety pin and try to bend it. Did it bend? (Mine didn't!) If you did manage to bend it, I'm sure noticed that it was a heck of a lot tougher than a traditional beading head pin. That's the basic concept behind our beaded hair sticks (we don't use safety pins, but we're going to keep what we do use a secret!). We also use a cyano-acrylate (super-glue) gel to secure each bead in place on the pin, so they won't turn and rattle in your hair! The beads are then attached to the hair stick using epoxy (an adhesive that's even stronger than super glue).
The result is an unusually secure beaded hair stick that does not bend!
Before we started making them, I was very leery of beaded sticks, so if you're anything like me, I hope that bit of explanation will help to instill some confidence in my beaded hair sticks. Give them a try!
Well, that's all for this update! Be sure to check us out on etsy!
